CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin is set to unveil an exclusive policy for exports, aimed at making the state a vibrant export economy, on Wednesday.
The state has identified 10 export hubs and will help in the development of common facilities to usher a growth phase for exporters as part of the state's own export strategy.
"We have been extending all support to export orient units even during the pandemic in order not to affect export commitments. Having understood the issues affecting them, we are now ready to unveil the export strategy, the details of which will be revealed only on Wednesday," Minister for Industries Thangam Thennarasu told TOI.
Elaborating further, an official source said the state government has identified 10 export hubs including Tirupur, Karur, Coimbatore, Hosur, Ambur, Madurai, Chennai and Kancheepuram. "In these export hubs, we are keen to develop common facilities like industrial housing, training facilities and testing centres. Wherever the local association of exporters comes forward, the state will grant funds to create such facilities, " the official said.
On Wednesday, in the presence of chief minister Stalin around 25 new MoUs will be signed exclusively with exporters for both new investments and expansion. This is in line with the state's focus to create a positive environment for both IT and manufacturing, especially on the export front.
A significant development will be the signing of an MoU by online retail giant Flipkart with the MSME department of the Tamil Nadu government. The MoU will pave way for Flipkart to promote products produced by MSMEs in Tamil Nadu through its retail network.
Another MoU will enable Cotton Corporation of India to establish a depot in Tamil Nadu. This will help exporters overcome the trouble after the cotton cess was withdrawn, another source said. This was also a long pending demand of the industry.
