CHENNAI: In the third instance of an electric scooter going up in flames in the state in a week, a motorist had a narrow escape after the electric scooter he was riding went up in flames in Madhavaram on Tuesday.
B Ganesh, 32, of Ambattur was on his way to work when, at Manchakuppam near Madhavaram, he noticed smoke from his vehicle. He abandoned the vehicle.
Passersby stopped a tanker, and the driver sprayed the water to douse the fire. A case was registered. The cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. Last week, in Vellore, an electric scooter caught fire, claiming the lives of a man and his daughter.
