Tamil Nadu: Sloth bear injures leg in search of honey, rescued in Valparai

COIMBATORE: The forest department officials tranquilized a sloth bear which suffered injuries on his left foreleg while trying to take honey from a silver oak tree at Waterfalls estate near Valparai on Monday evening.

The sloth bear was taken to the Anti-Depredation Squad Rescue Centre at Valparai for treatment.

On Monday at 3pm, the bear climbed on to the silver oak tree and his leg was stuck between two branches of the tree. Valparai range officer K Jayachandran and his team rushed to the spot along with forest veterinary officer A Sukumar and tranquilised the animal with a dart.

Later, he was taken to the centre for treatment.

Range officer Jayachandran said that the bear was under surveillance. Once treatment was over, the bear will be released into a reserve forest.
