CHENNAI: New cases continued to increase on Saturday, when the state health department reported 1,639 case compared to 1,631 on Friday and 1,596 cases Thursday.
Twenty one districts reported an increase in new cases, but what’s worrying the public health department is the gradual increase in test positivity rates in many districts.
“The marginal increase we see is not due to delayed test results over weekend or increased testing during weekdays. We are seeing a slow, but steady increase in test positivity rate in several districts including Coimbatore and Chennai over the last two weeks,” said health secretary J Radhakrishnan.
Of the 27 Covid deaths reported on Saturday, Chengalpet reported three, there were two each in seven districts, while10 other districts reported one death each. Nineteen districts reported zero deaths.
