MADURAI: Heavy rain lashed Ramanathapuram and surrounding areas on Friday night and Saturday morning forcing the district administration to declare a holiday for schools in the district.
The rain gradually reduced towards the evening but the day remained unusually overcast. However, the coastal areas of Rameswaram and Pamban did not receive heavy rainfall.
Madurai experienced drizzle in many parts of the city in the morning while the sky remained cloudy, something unusual in February. Chilly weather prevailed throughout the day. Meanwhile, the water level in Mullaperiyar dam stood at 132 feet with inflow of 71 cusecs while 600 cusecs was discharged from it. The water level in Vaigai dam stood at 69 feet with an inflow of 178 cusecs and outflow of 219 cusecs.
