Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission: Over 98,000 appear for exam in Madurai, 78,000 in Trichy

MADURAI/TRICHY: As many as 98,762 candidates appeared for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group IV exam held at 419 centres in Madurai district from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Sunday. The examination was conducted to fill 7,382 vacant posts in state government offices.

It was held in 1,269 centres in the central region comprising nine districts, including Trichy. As many as 78,018 or 83.37 % aspirants appeared for the exam in Trichy district.

According to Madurai district officials, 18,807 candidates were absent and the district recorded an attendance of 84%. Most of the centres were located in Madurai North and South areas, which had 92 and 80 centres, respectively, with more than 50,000 candidates giving the examinations there.

Madurai district collector S Aneesh Sekhar inspected the arrangements at the exam centre at The American College. A total of 419 inspecting officers, 96 mobile units and 14 flying squads were deployed at all centres to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the exam.

Candidates had mixed response towards the exam. Some questions required better understanding of the topics to identify the right answer, while some others were easier, said a candidate from Anna Nagar in Madurai.

In Trichy, the district administration set up 320 exam centres in 12 sub-centres – Trichy, Trichy west, Trichy east, Lalgudi, Mannachanallur, Manapparai, Marungapuri, Musiri, Srirangam, Thottiyam, Thuraiyur and Thiruverumbur.

Trichy collector M Pradeep Kumar visited some of the centres and inspected the examination proceedings. The aspirants with the visual impairment were allowed to take the help of scribes.

Going by the list, Trichy sub-centre witnessed the highest number of aspirants- 12,959.

Trichy city police and the central zone police deployed adequate cops at the examination centres.
