MADURAI: Save Higher Education Movement, Tamil Nadu (SHE-TN) organized an online panel discussion protesting the collection of exorbitant fees by colleges and the increasing privatisation of the education sector.
The discussion was led by Dr R Murali, state secretary of the movement. Ananda Krishnan, a member of the movement, said though colleges run aided and self-finance courses student strength was always more in the latter.
Many colleges charge exorbitant fees but no action is being taken. Corruption is rampant and it is also made sure that the money goes to trusts .
“On one hand, exorbitant fees is being charged while on the other, teachers are are not even getting the minimum wage,” said Vijayakumar, a member.
