Tamil Nadu: Petrol bombs hurled at local RSS functionary’s house in Madurai

MADURAI: Unidentified persons hurled petrol bombs at the house belonging to a local functionary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Tamil Nadu's Madurai on Saturday night.

As per the police, two unknown assailants hurled three petrol bombs at the house of MH Krishnan at Mela Anuppanadi.

Krishan and his family members were inside the house at the time of the attack.

Police said that while two of the petrol bombs reportedly exploded on contact resulting in minor flames while the third one failed to explode. No one was injured in the incident which took place at 7.38pm.

The police recovered CCTV camera footage which showed a man carrying petrol bombs and throwing it at the house of the RSS functionary. The man then quickly fled the spot.

Both the assailants were wearing helmets and masks.

The Keeraithurai police are investigating further to identify the two assailants and determine the motive behind the attack.

In a similar incident in the early hours of Saturday in Dindigul district, two unknown miscreants set ablaze several vehicles at a godown belonging to a BJP functionary at Kudaiparaipatti.

Police said that the godown belonged to T Paulraj, president, BJP Dindigul Town (West). One car and five two-wheelers which were parked at the godown were damaged in the fire.

Meanwhile, BJP cadres alleged that Popular Front of India (PFI) members were behind the incident in retaliation to the recent raids by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
