Tamil Nadu: Pedestrian, biker killed by trucks

CHENNAI: A biker and a pedestrian were killed when they were hit by speeding trucks in separate incidents in Tiruvallur district on Thursday night.

In the first accident, Balu, 37, of Pallipet, was riding pillion with his friend Rajini, 40, on a bike. The accident occurred when a truck coming from behind tried to overtake the bike and ended up hitting it. In the impact, the duo were thrown off the vehicle. While Balu sustained severe head injuries, Rajini escaped with minor injuries. The duo were taken to Pallipet Government Hospital where Balu was declared dead.

In the other accident, a 65-year-old man was fatally knocked down by a truck while he was walking on the road. Chellaiyan, 65, of Pandur, was walking down the road, when the speeding vehicle hit him from behind killing him on the spot.

Police have registered separate cases and are searching for the drivers.
