CHENNAI: A man died and his seven-year-old neighbour is battling for life after they fell down while trying to avoid hitting a dog at Tiruvallur.
The deceased, Gunasekaran, 29 of Indira Nagar, was employed at a private firm. On Saturday, he took his seven-year-old neighbour, Mukesh, to a nearby shop. After he finished his shopping, he was returning to his home when the accident took place.
When their bike reached Tandalam, a dog came their way. In order to avoid hitting the dog, Gunasekaran applied brakes all of a suddenm resulting in the bike swerving, and the duo falling down. Passersby who witnessed the accident rushed the duo to Tiruvallur government hospital.
Gunasekaran sustained severe head injuries and was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where he died later without responding to treatment. The child, who was seated on the petrol tank and sustained multiple injuries, is battling for life at the same hospital.
“He couldn’t bring the vehicle under his control.. the sudden brake toppled the vehicle,” said an investigating officer.
Kadambathur police have registered a case and are investigating. Some residents said that there are a lot of stray dogs running across the road, posing a grave risk to passengers. The stretch has turned dangerous for motorists during night time as the area is poorly lit.
Mukesh, the child, has sustained severe head injuries, police said.
