CHENNAI: A man who befriended a woman on social media, staged a fake marriage and blackmailed her asking for money, was arrested by the Thirunindravur police on Wednesday. The woman lodged a complaint after discovering that the accused was writing porn stories on the internet based on real-life incidents.
In the complaint filed with the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, Kumari (name changed) said that she was a divorcee, living alone in Villivakkam. In 2020, she received a Facebook friend request from a stranger named Vikram Vedagiri, a resident of Thirunindravur. She accepted the request and the duo began chatting on Facebook and subsequently on WhatsApp.
Their relationship grew, and the couple made a trip to Hyderabad where Vikram, according to the complaint, tied the knot with Kumari inside a puja room. After his parents found out that Kumari was a divorcee, Vikram moved out of their house and lived alone.
He then started seeking financial support from Kumari. It soon escalated to a blackmail, and Vikram demanded 10 lakh to not release their intimate videos and photos online. Kumari also found out that Vikram was writing porn stories online and had plans to marry another woman. Based on her complaint, Vikram has been arrested.
