TIRUPUR: The municipal primary school on Palani Road at Udumalpet, which was facing closure after the sole student left for another school, has got a new lease of life with four students enrolling this year.
Thanks to the efforts taken by school education department officials and headmistress A Sivakami, a campaign was conducted to increase headcount.
Advertisements, door-to-door campaigns and creating awareness about the perks of studying in government schools enabled the school to get new students. “After the sole Class V student left for another school, we carried out a campaign to advertise our school. For this, we reached out to every parent in the locality to encourage them to admit their wards in our school.” Sivakami told TOI.
A new student each has been admitted in classes I, II, III and V.
“We were able to attract some students in the locality by telling their parents about the benefits they get while studying in a government school. I am expecting more students to join,” the headmistress added.
