Speaker M Appavu said instead of saying “unworthy material”, it could be described as “poor quality material”. Participating in the debate, opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami said the clothes for Co-optex were procured from weavers’ co-operative societies. "It is not correct to demean the weavers. Public will also be hesitant to buy clothes at Cooptex," he said. Replying to him, leader of the house S Durai Murugan said, "Co-optex is a good organisation. But the handloom minister only said the clothes procured by the society were of poor quality. And it was not sold. There is nothing wrong in the minister's statement."
