CHENNAI: As many as 102 government arts and science colleges in the state will get 2,331 assistant professors before the start of next academic year (2022-23).
The recruitment notification was issued in 2019 and more than 42,000 candidates have applied for the assistant professor posts. The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has completed first level certificate verification for 50% of the subjects and is expected to complete the verification for the remaining subjects soon.
"The board will release the ranks of the candidates based on level one certificate verification and call candidates in 1:3 ratio for next level certificate verification and interview. The entire selection process will get over before issuing notification for new vacancies in July," an official from TRB said.
In the annual recruitment planner for the year 2022, the TRB announced that the new notification to fill 1,334 assistant professor vacancies in government arts and science colleges will be issued in July.
In the first level, the board will verify the document claim made by the applicants. Candidates will be awarded marks for the experience only after the date of attaining the necessary qualification. In the level two certificate verification, the board will verify the uploaded documents with original documents.
"Of the 73 subjects, the board has completed the certificate verification for 38 subjects. The certificate verification for remaining subjects will begin soon," the official added.
T Veeramani, president of The Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers' Association (TNGCTA), said, government colleges have more than 4,000 vacancies. "These 2,331 assistant professor appointments will help students from rural areas to get subject teachers, " he said.
Further, the TRB is planning to introduce flying squads during the PG teachers recruitment test scheduled to be held from February 12 to 20. District collectors will head the district level committees to conduct the recruitment tests. More than 2.6 lakh candidates will appear for the exams.
