CHENNAI: Five 1990-batch IPS officers including Chennai commissioner Shankar Jiwal and former commissioner A K Viswanathan have been promoted to the rank of director general of police (DGP).
The others are Abhash Kumar, who heads the civil supplies CID, T V Ravichandran, who is on central deputation, and Seema Agrawal, who is a member of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board (TNUSRB), said an order issued by S K Prabhakar, additional chief secretary to the home department, on Friday. Viswanathan is currently chief of the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation. Another order placing them in new postings or upgrading current ones will soon be issued.
The state already has 10 IPS officers of the rank of DGP — C Sylendra Babu, Karan Singha, Prateep V Philip, Sanjay Arora, Sunil Kumar Singh, P Kandaswamy, Mohammad Shakeel Akther, Pramod Kumar, Rajesh Das and Braj Kishore Ravi. While Prateep V Philip is retiring this month, Sanjay Arora and Braj Kishore Ravi are on deputation.
