CHENNAI: Electricity minister V Senthil Balaji on Friday sought an apology from BJP state president K Annamalai for his alleged defamatory comments against the government and the chief minister. The BJP leader, however, declined to apologize.
Annamalai had alleged that DMK partymen were making attempts to seek monetary gains from a private 'sick power unit' in the state, and Tangedco was engaged in high-cost power purchase. Talking to reporters here, the minister said the state was providing clean governance, but certain individuals levelled charges without evidence.
"He (Annamalai) heads a party and should talk with proof. I gave him 24 hours. I will not remain a mute spectator if anyone defames the government," Balaji said, seeking to know from Annamalai the benefits extended by the discom to the private unit. The minister said he was ready to respond to the charges if Annamalai came with evidence.
Annamalai said he would not apologise. "Let him go to the court if he chooses to," he told reporters in Tirupur.
