COIMBATORE: Depressed over the death of their 14-year-old son in December 2021, a couple committed suicide by hanging at their residence at Kalangal near Sulur on Monday.
The deceased were identified as V Sathyaraj, 36, and his wife S Saranya, 36. Sathyaraj was working as an operator of a CNC (computer numerical control) lathe machine. The couple’s son Shyam, 14, died of dengue in December 2021.
On Monday morning, the couple didn’t come out of the house and there was no response when neighbours knocked on the door.
The neighbours broke open the house to find Sathyaraj hanging from the ceiling fan and his wife lying dead on the floor.
The Sulur police sent the bodies to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the couple hailed from Mysuru and settled in Kalangal 15 years ago. Police registered a case under Section 174 CrPC.
