Tamil Nadu: Cop held for stabbing wife, daughter over quarrel in Minjur

CHENNAI: A police head constable stabbed his wife and daughter in Minjur, following a quarrel on Thursday. According to police, the police personnel, K Rajendran, 40, was drunk at the time of the incident.

He often quarreled with his wife Poornima under the influence of alcohol and demanded divorce. On Thursday morning, a verbal duel broke out between the two. Later, Rajendran left the house on Bazaar Road in Minjur. He returned home drunk in the afternoon and created a ruckus. He is said to have demanded that Poornima sign a paper, which she refused to do. He threatened to kill her. However, she ignored him and continued with her household chores.

Suddenly, Rajendran took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Poornima in the abdomen and hand. Their 16-year-old daughter, who tried to rescue her mother, also received a stab wound to her stomach. Poornima and her daughter were taken to Government Stanley Hospital, and are said to be stable.

Meanwhile, Rajendran surrendered at Minjur police station. He has been detained for inquiry.
