Tamil Nadu: Car runs over groom-to-be near Kanchi

CHENNAI: A man was run over by a speeding car and his friend riding pillion was injured in an accident in Kancheepuram on Sunday, police said.

The deceased, 32-year-old Hari Prasad of Ambur, worked at a private hospital in Tambaram. He was to get married next month.

Hari was overtaking another vehicle near Orikkai with friend Poovannan, of Seeyamangalam, when the car plying in the opposite direction collided head on. Both friends were thrown off the bike. Prasad died on the way to Kancheepuram GH, while Poovannan was admitted there. Villagers nabbed the car driver, Ilavazhagan of Cuddalore, and handed him over to the police. A case has been registered.
