CHENNAI: New cases in Tamil Nadu dropped to 1,152 on Friday compared to 1,164 it had registered on Thursday although 13 districts reported an increase in new cases in the last 24 hours.
Chennai (147) and Coimbatore (140) continued to report cases in three digits on Friday. While Coimbatore reported an increase from 137 on Friday, cases in Chennai declined from 152. The sharpest increase in fresh cases were reported from Namakkal, where clusters pushed up new cases to 65 on Friday from 45 on Thursday. A dozen other districts reported an increase between one and six fresh case to their Friday's tally.
However, 27 districts reported fewer than 25 cases on Friday, and among them ten districts reported cases in single digits. Ariyalur reported one case, followed by Ramanathapuram (2), and three cases each in Perambalur, Tenkasi and Theni.
Nineteen deaths reported on Friday took the toll tally in the state 35,987.
The state vaccinated 1.3 lakh people at various centres across the state pushing the dosage tally to 5.16 crore. The number of people vaccinated in private hospitals stood at 26.23 lakh (from May 1).
