CHENNAI: As many as 5,972 government school students got engineering seats under the 7.5% special reservation in the online engineering counselling this year. As per the government order, 11,390 of 1.51 lakh seats reserved under this new quota were earmarked for students from government schools.
The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee released the allotment details for special reservation categories on Saturday. Totally, 6,442 students got allotments under various reservations.
“Of 6,442 students who took part in the special reservation category, 1,615 students opted for computer science engineering and 1,112 students opted for electronics and communications engineering,” career consultant Jayaprakash Gandhi said. Only 235 took BTech AI and data science course.
The first round of online counselling will start with fee payment on Monday. Due to the tough competition, experts urged the candidates to give as many choices as possible for general counselling to get an allotment in the counselling.
