MADURAI/TRICHY: Four new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Madurai and five in Trichy on Wednesday. Trichy now has 26 active cases while Madurai reported 22 and one recovery.
In the ten southern districts of Tamil Nadu, 32 new cases were reported and the active cases crossed the 100 mark. With 20 cases, Kanyakumari recorded the highest, followed by Tirunelveli (4) along with Madurai, Tuticorin (3) and Dindigul (1). This is the first time that one of the southern districts recorded 20 cases in a day since a drop after the third wave.
Kanyakumari reported two recoveries on while Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar reported one recovery each. The southern region recorded 124 active cases, with Kanyakumari (56) having the highest, followed by Madurai (22), Tirunelveli (19), Sivagangai (10), Tuticorin (10), Dindigul (3) and Virudhunagar (2). Theni and Tenkasi districts had one active case each while Ramanathapuram was the only district with zero cases in south Tamil Nadu.
In the central region, Ariyalur, Nagappattinam and Perambalur reported one new cases each. Trichy has the most number of active cases in the region while the other districts have three or less. Nagappattinam and Tiruvarur reported one discharge each while Pudukottai repored one discharge. Mayiladuthurai reported zero new and active cases.
