CHENNAI: Government arts and science colleges in the state can increase intake by 25% from this year. This means an additional 25,000 seats will be available.
For 1,00,102 seats in 143 government arts and science colleges, 2,29,309 students have applied this year. The admissions are still going on.
“With a high number of applications received for admissions in government colleges, the higher education department allows the colleges to admit 25% more students in arts courses and 25% more students in science courses depending on lab facilities against the sanctioned strength. The colleges should get permission from respective universities for the additional intake," an order issued by higher education secretary D Karthikeyan said.
