Tamil Nadu: 2 dead, 20 escape unhurt after bus-bike collision in Pudukottai

TRICHY: At least 20 passengers of a government bus had a narrow escape when the vehicle caught fire after a bike collided with the bus near Thirumayam in Pudukottai district on Saturday night.

Whereas, two persons who were riding the two-wheeler died on the spot, police said.

According to police, a TNSTC bus with around 20 passengers was heading towards Trichy from Karaikudi in Sivagangai district.

When the bus was approaching Pambaru River bridge, a Thirumayam bound two-wheeler on which two persons were riding rammed the vehicle.

After the collision, the bus and the petrol tank of the bike caught fire, and within no time the entire bus was engulfed in flames.

However, all the passengers managed to get down from the bus with no injuries, police added.

After receiving the information, The Thirumayam police rushed to the spot along with the fire and rescue team.

The fire was finally doused after an hour-long struggle.

Traffic on Pudukottai-Rameswaram highway was severely affected for more than 2 hours following the accident, police added.

Police registered a case and further investigation was under way to identify the deceased.
