CHENNAI: A total of 114 Tasmac liquor vends in Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts will stay shut for three days from Monday.
This is in view of rural local body elections in Chengalpet and Kancheepuram districts. Bars attached to clubs and hotels, pubs and standalone bars in these areas cannot sell liquor either.
Under the rules, liquor shops and bars in a five-km radius of areas where polls are on should remain closed for two days ahead of the elections. Tasmac sources said a few of its retail outlets in areas such as Vandalur will be closed till Saturday for six consecutive days as the elections are conducted in two phases.
