DHARMAPURI: The number of accused has risen to eight from seven in connection with the prenatal sex determination case in Dharmapuri district. The Dharmapuri town police have arrested the husband of one of the accused in connection with the case on early Monday morning.
Police initiated an inquiry on this issue after the joint director of medical services Dr Kanimozhi lodged a complaint against an unidentified gang involved in prenatal sex determination.
Earlier, Vanaja Raghavan, 27, of Kaveripattinam in Krishnagiri district was admitted in Krishnagiri district government hospital after she developed a complication after a botched abortion.
Police came to know that a gang was involved in the activity and arrested seven people including three women on Saturday evening. “During inquiries with the accused, we came to know that Vijayakumar, 40, husband of Karpagam, 37, was also involved in this case,” a police officer said. He added that Vijayakumar was in a hideout and police managed to arrest him on early Monday morning.
The accused was lodged at the Salem central prison under judicial custody.
