TAMHI deliver 1,000 Easter eggs to children across North Belfast

There were over 1,000 happy faces across North Belfast on Wednesday night after a special Easter egg delivery took place.

Tonight's event was organised by TAMHI (Tackling Awareness of Mental Health Issues), a mental health charity based in Northern Ireland that works with sports clubs and groups who use sport to raise awareness of mental health and resilience.

TAMHI works with sports clubs, schools, and youth groups to make mental health fun and engaging.

The egg drop is an annual tradition for the group, but given the impact of the pandemic, they say they wanted to up their game this year.

Superheroes and popular characters arrived at the doors of the families tonight, to distribute the chocolate gift.

Mickey Meehan, from TAMHI told Belfast Live: “Our resilient active youth team, which ranges from age 14 to 24, have been collecting and doing a bit of fundraising within the team and their families. We have had generous donations of eggs too. We do this every year and it’s our ‘one egg equals one smile’ campaign.

“It’s just to make some people happy, to spread a bit of positivity across North Belfast. That’s what it is all about. Last year we done 280 eggs and this year we really did up our game to 1,000.

“If you think about it, 1,000 eggs is 1,000 happy faces and if you are a parent, you’re also going to be happy. We were delighted to be able to bring this across communities in Belfast. It was great to see all of their faces.

“If we had a bigger team we’d be going beyond North Belfast. That is a goal for next year. We want to expand. We never stay still and don’t plan to stop.

“There are too many people to thank individually for their help but I want to thank the youth people. They give us inspiration every single day. They really are incredible.”

TAMHI also visited a number of families who have been specifically affected by coronavirus in the last 12 months.
