Tamagotchi is making a comeback - and you can buy a rainbow unicorn one

If you grew up in the 90s, you'll have had some pretty weird and wonderful toys to play with - from Furby to Bop It and Polly Pockets.

But one that you probably treasured a little more than the others was the Tamagotchi.

Created by Japanese company Bandai, the Tamagotchi was an egg-shaped digital pet that you could keep in your pocket.

It was first released in 1996 and its popularity quickly amassed, with over 82 million models sold after the launch.

And while we haven't seen any new versions of the toy in a few years, it turns out they're now making a comeback.

To cash in on the sense of nostalgia that we all love, the company have released a range of the original style Tamagotchi for 2019.

This model is available to buy on Amazon, and the product description reveals that it's the same as the digital pet "you loved back in 1997" - with the same programming.

The description adds: "Feed it, turn ligts on/off, play with it, give it medicine, flush after it's used the bathroom, check its health and discipline your Tamagotchi if he bothers you when he's happy, fed and all cleaned up.

"Includes character game where you have to guess which way the Tamagotchi will move next!"

Prices start from around £20 but some are double this as they are shipped from overseas.

Colour options include a rainbow unicorn version, green glitter, leopard print, translucent blue and white/pink.

Reviewers on Amazon are thrilled with the item, with lots of five star reviews all round.

One person wrote: "Great item and price. Lots of fun."

Another said: "Exactly as expected, great bit of retro and decent price."

A third added: "I couldn't resist buying this, as these were all the rage when I was a kid. It's just like I remember."
