Tam Courts to be Dundee United manager as new boss targets Charlie Mulgrew signing

Dundee United are set to confirm Tam Courts as their new manager on a two-year-deal.

The 39-year-old will step up from his position as head of tactical performance for the Tannadice academy set-up.

Courts will bring in Liam Fox as his No. 2, having convinced him to turn his back on an agreed switch to Hibs.

Fox left Livingston at the end of the season and had agreed to move to Easter Road but has called Jack Ross over the past 48 hours to confirm that he has had a change of heart and will now be moving to Tayside instead.

That move has been foreshadowed by the exit of Stephen Frail as assistant manager, confirmed by the club on Monday.

Courts had been courted for positions at West Ham United and NAC Breda after impressing in his work at Tannadice.

He has previously been in charge of Kelty Hearts and has been working behind the scenes at United in recent seasons.

United have been looking for a new boss since Micky Mellon stepped down in the summer, before he returned to take up the manager’s position at Tranmere Rovers.

Courts is interested in former Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew.

He is likely to step up talks after his appointment is confirmed, with the 35-year-old a free agent after he left Blackburn Rovers in the summer.
