I've been searching around for a count of US newspapers' endorsements for the US election, and hit the jackpot with Editor & Publisher's daily endorsement tally. The journal's latest figures show that Kerry has secured the backing of 142 US papers, compared to 123 who have plumped for Bush. Kerry is also ahead in terms of total circulation of his backers, according to E&P, at about 17.5m to 11.5m. Perhaps the most interesting figure to be drawn from E&P's research is the fact that 37 papers have "flip-flopped" from Bush to Kerry, compares to just six who've changed from Kerry to Bush since 2000.
Meanwhile in the UK, the Financial Times has endorsed Kerry (registration required but there is a free 15-day trial), while Dan Gillmor has reported rumours that the Economist is also going to back the Democrat candidate. Germany's biggest-selling paper, Bild has backed Bush, as Deutsche Welle has reported.
