Tallaght University Hospital to run a series of public health talks cover cancer, asthma, and mental health amongst others

Tallaght University Hospital has announced a series of public health talks taking place over the next few months.

The initiative will see medical practitioners covering topics such as brain health, managing asthma, caring for the carer, diabetes, and menopause.

The free talks are run in partnership with the TUH Patient Community Advisory Council (PCAC).

Catherine Heaney, Chair of PCAC and Fettercairn Community Health Project Co-Coordinator, said: “Over the past few years we have seen the success of moving public health education into the community.

“People want to be more informed about their health and the health of family members. The interest in our talks has been phenomenal and we expect that to be repeated with this series.

“Public awareness around common health conditions is really important in both prevention and treatment.”

Here is what’s in store:

September 10, 11am- How to be happy in the real world (Tallaght Health Fair, Fettercairn Community Centre, Tallaght)

September 16, 11 am- Brain Health: This talk will look at how you can mind your brain health and reduce your risk for dementia as you age, providing useful advice and tips on how to keep your brain active as well as answering audience questions on brain health (Trustus Day Centre, New Seskin Court, Whitestown Way, Tallaght)

September 17, 11.30 am- Managing Asthma (Tallaght Library, Library Square)

September 18, 6pm - Mental Health & caring for the carer (Tallaght Library, Library Square)

October 1- Keeping active as we age and how to avoid slips, trips and falls (St. Kevins Resource Centre, Treepark Drive, Kilnamanagh)

October 7, 6.30 pm- The Bowel - what you need to know and why? (Killinarden Community Centre, Killinarden Heights, Tallaght)

October 24, 11 am- The Menopause – let’s talk about it (Firhouse Community & Leisure Centre, Ballycullen Drive, Firhouse)

November 6 - Cancer what is it and what can be done to treat it? (Firhouse Community & Leisure Centre, Ballycullen Drive, Firhouse,)

November 7, 11am- Diabetes, what is it, can it be prevented and how to live with it (The Front Room, Jobstown Community Centre, Fortunestown Way, Tallaght)
