Tallaght Stadium is set for a €4.7m redevelopment that will see its capacity increase to 10,000.
The stadium recently expanded its capacity to 8,000 with the completion of the 2,195 south stand last year and plans are now in place to further increase the capacity of the south Dublin venue.
The ground’s owners, South Dublin County Council, has put out a request for tenders for the construction of the new stand, as well as remodelling the west stand.
A new floor will be added to the west stand that would include VIP facilities for up to 200 people, reports the Sunday Times.
The council also intends to add retail units at street level which would recoup the cost of the investment.
The home of Shamrock Rovers could accommodate over 20,000 people for concerts once redevelopment is complete.
The council said the development would “future-proof” the ground and make it more “flexible”, potentially filling a gap for sporting events between the 7,500 capacity Turner’s Cross in Cork and the 51,700 Aviva Stadium.
The new stand will be accessible from a high-level walking to the rear that will present opportunities for “match-day animation and activity” that can be seen by the public on the nearby N81.
The VIP area will include 84 places at dining tables, 16 places at sofas, 20 individual seats and 101 external cushioned seats.
A remodelled members’ bar, a press area and ball boys’ room are also included in the plans.
