Tallaght Stadium's €7 million upgrade moves step closer

The upgrade of Tallaght Stadium moved a step closer today when South Dublin County Council voted to proceed with the €7 million project.

Erecting a fourth stand at Shamrock Rovers’ home ground has been slated since late 2018, along with a West Stand facelift.

That will include new corporate and media facilities to bring the venue up to speed with UEFA standards for hosting group games in European competitions.

Shamrock Rovers already have club offices in the West Stand but will have the option of moving to new ones in the North Stand once it is completed by late 2021 or early 2022.

Meanwhile, with boss Stephen Bradley leading a session wearing a face mask, Hoops players were put through their paces this morning on a return to training.

With strict non-contact measures in place, guidelines mean a stringent rotation basis of ‘15 in, 15 out’ is practiced.

Clubs are not permitted to have, say, two groups of 15 operating on site at the one time so players will have to arrive for training on a staggered, grouped basis.

It comes after no players or coaching staff tested positive for coronavirus in the second batch of test results last week.

The next round of Covid-19 testing takes place on that Monday and then again on Thursday.

Other SSE Airtricity League clubs are expected to return to collective training from 15 June.
