Tallaght Stadium lined up to host four-team tournament in July

Tallaght Stadium could yet host the four-team tournament in July that will serve as warm-up for Europe.

Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Derry City were invited to compete by the FAI last Friday.

It is designed to prepare the teams for Champions League and Europa League qualifiers, but will also act as a test drive for return to play behind-closed-doors.

Aviva Stadium had been earmarked as the likely tournament venue following high level talks with FAI chiefs.

But while the Dublin 4 ground has not been ruled out, Mirror Sport has learned that Tallaght is now more likely.

It is envisaged that the competition - which cannot be played until July 20 at the earliest under Government directives - will be staged over two weekends.

Meetings based around the FAI's financial package to clubs were postponed yesterday due to personal reasons.  The FAI - NLEC - PFAI and referees steering committee meets today instead.

But League of Ireland players did hold a near two-hour conference call with FAI medical officer Dr Alan Byrne, with queries over Covid-19 testing to the fore.

A comprehensive document detailing protocols for a return to training is expected to be published today.

Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Derry City have the green light to resume training on June 8, with the rest of the league returning on June 29.
