Tallaght residents warned against using bogus waste collectors

South Dublin County Council has cautioned residents against using bogus waste collection companies.

The warning comes as there were reports of illegal collection taking place in Virginia Heights in Tallaght and surrounding areas on Monday between 9 am and 12 pm.

Locals have been warned against using these companies as the rubbish collected is likely to be illegally dumped.

A Twitter post by SDCC said: “SDCC has had reports of an illegal waste collection taking place in the Virginia Heights, D24 area and surrounding areas on Monday 15 June, 2020, between 9am and 12pm.

“Do not give your waste to this collector, as the unwanted waste collected is likely to be dumped.”

Additionally Dublin Fire Brigade has warned locals that the rubbish collected may be dumped and set alight resulting in extensive damage to the area in some cases.

A Twitter post by Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Do not engage these bogus collectors. This is where YOUR waste ends up. Money spent tidying this mess could be used elsewhere in your community.

“Report leaflet drops and collections like this to your local authority.”
