Talking Point: What do you think of Sadiq Khan’s plan for the TfL budget?

As fears continue to grow for the fate of Tfl, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan proposed a series of measures on Wednesday evening in an attempt to ease the financial crisis.

Council tax hikes, inflation-busting fare rises and premium fares for passengers at Heathrow Airport formed part of the bid to save London’s transport network.

The mayor said he would increase his share of council tax by on average £20 a year, while fare hikes could be as high as five per cent by January.

Free travel is also under threat - with those aged 60 and over facing restrictions on complementary journeys, with age eligibility increasing by six months per year.

Khan said the Government was “holding London to ransom” in refusing to support TfL financially.

What do you think of the measures? Are they reasonable to support TfL, or are they too drastic?
