E-scooters arrived in the capital today, as a rental scheme began in five London boroughs.

The trial was however hit by a delay, as one of the main areas postponed participation until 5 July.

Rules for e-scooters are similar to those for bikes: helmets are recommended, and riding on pavements is illegal.

Will Norman, Sadiq Khan’s walking and cycling commissioner, said: “I don’t know if this will work for London. That is why we are doing the trial. Let’s see what role they can play in reducing our car traffic.”
