Talking Point: Should the UK lower the cost of PCR tests?

According to a recent investigation, PCR travel tests in the UK are the second most expensive in the world.

Brits face an average cost of £92 for Covid tests, according to the study by Admiral Travel Insurance, leaving us behind only the US at £119.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid has called for a review into “excessive” pricing and “exploitative practices” among test providers. Travel chiefs, meanwhile, fear that the excessive costs are deterring people from going abroad.

The demands came as the Competition and Markets Authority today announced that the cost of PCR travel tests will be investigated “immediately”.

What do you think of the cost of PCR tests? Have you been caught out yourself? Do you know anyone who has had to pay an “excessive” amount for a test?

Let us know in the comments and we’ll feature you in Monday’s Talking Point.
