Talking Point: Should the NHS app be mandatory?

The Government say that self-isolation guidance will remain in place until August 16

Hundreds of thousands of people are currently self-isolating amid a Covid app “pingdemic,” prompting some to delete the app altogether to avoid being contacted.

The Government say that self-isolation guidance will remain in place until August 16, after which fully-vaccinated adults and under 18s will not be required to quarantine.

Businesses, however, have warned that millions of people could be quarantining before that date, and have pleaded with the Government to change the app sensitivity after many shops and restaurants - and even the entire Metropolitan Line - have been forced to close due to staff shortages.

But with individuals taking the “pingdemic” into their own hands, do you think the NHS app should become mandatory? Or do you think the Government could do more to ease the issue?
