Talking Point: Is it enough to take a Covid test before Christmas parties?

Getting a booster jab before December 11 allows the best chance of avoiding being infected with Covid-19 over the festive period (PA) (Picture: PA Archive)

Sajid Javid has advised taking a lateral flow test before heading to Christmas parties this year.

Although the Health Secretary stopped short of suggesting people cancel plans at this stage, he urged caution over the festive period.

“If you are invited to a Christmas party, there’s quite a few people there, maybe you want to take an LFT test before you go. Go to the party, but just be cautious.”

Asked whether he would wear a mask, he added: “Maybe. It depends if I am walking around or sitting down. It depends if I’m eating. People just need to make a decision based on the guidance.”

Do you think taking a Covid test before a party is enough to stop the spread of the new variant, or should plans be cancelled altogether?
