Talking Point: Do you support Extinction Rebellion despite the disruptions?

Extinction Rebellion began their two weeks of protests yesterday, blocking roads in central London and targeting Trafalgar Square.

The Met Police made 52 arrests on Monday for a “variety” of offences.

Today, activists headed to Covent Garden, where they erected a giant pink table which has since been dismantled.

XR says it will be focusing the “Impossible Rebellion” campaign on the capital’s financial district, as well as institutions that it claims are fuelling climate change.

But the chaos caused by today’s protests prompted calls to protect businesses.

The New West End Company, which represents businesses in and around Oxford and Regent Street, said: “While we fully support the right to peaceful protest, we do not believe that it is acceptable to block some of London’s busiest streets for such a long period of time.

“This disruption is deeply damaging to London’s economy and the one in 10 Londoners who work in the West End.”

But do you support Extinction Rebellion despite the disruption they cause? What are your reasons for supporting or opposing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments and we’ll feature you on the website tomorrow.
