Talking Point: Are girls more intelligent than boys?

33.4 per cent of girls were given top GCSE grades

(Picture: PA Wire)

Girls have widened their lead over boys when it comes to GCSE results, with grades today particularly high for London teenagers.

33.4 per cent of girls were given top marks, as opposed to 24.4 per cent of boys’ marks - a full nine per cent higher.

This is a bigger gap than last year, which still saw girls lead by 8 per cent. The year before that - the last year that physical exams were taken - showed a lead of 6.5 per cent.

But it’s not just GCSEs, either - girls also perform better than boys in A-levels, and are more often awarded university places.

Why do you think girls are doing better than boys, and why do you think this lead gets bigger each year? Are girls simply more intelligent?
