11.15am Mullins plotting Champion Hurdle prep for Faugheen
Tony Paley: Champion Hurdle favourite Faugheen may run in the Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park on Saturday week before heading to the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Trainer Willie Mullins is pleased with how his runner is doing on the home gallops and is planning to discuss with stable jockey Ruby Walsh whether to give him more match practice ahead of the big day.
“We’re looking at the Red Mills. I think there’s one other contest left in England. We’ll just keep all our options open,” the champion trainer told At The Races. “The horse is in good form. We’ll probably have a chat with Ruby in the next day or so to see if he needs more experience, but at the moment I’m very happy with him.”
Wednesday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
The John Gosden-trained Nancy Astor (3.45) was an odds-on favourite when beaten at Lingfield last month but even the bare form of that defeat gives her an obvious chance in the maiden fillies’ event at Kempton and she has scope to progress.
The Marco Botti-trained Plaisir (3.05) has plenty in her favour on her first appearance this year at Chelmsford City. The selection starts her life in handicap company off a rating which seems fair, she should be suited by the step up to a mile and meets a trio of runners all with questions to answer.
