Wednesday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
The chance to oppose a hot favourite is one any proper punter should not turn down and that opportunity is presented at Wincanton where Victoria Pendleton rides for only the second time on a raceourse proper. She was unseated on Pacha Du Polder at Fakenham last month and while that was not solely her fault, we have enough evidence to say her mount should not be as short in the betting as he is given her inexperience.
Pendleton stayed well in arrears in the early part of the Fakenham race to give herself the chance of getting round without mishap and that will be the overriding priority on Wednesday afternoon. Pacha Du Polder is the form choice, which is why the pair are trading as favourite, but he is not far enough in front of Big Fella Thanks (3.20) in the ratings to suggest he can do this without some assistance from his rider. The selection won this event 12 months ago and was a promising second on his first run back from the pointing sphere recently.
Any Charles Byrnes-trained runner is worth a second look and there must be every chance he can notch another winner in the shape of Not For You (3.05) at Bangor. The nap selection only found Winged Express too good when a clear second at Chepstow at the weekend and has first-rate prospects off the same handicap mark.

For one final week, thanks again to 32Red bookmakers, we can offer another £25 ante-post bet on any race (for which betting is available) at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. You can see 32Red’s Cheltenham markets here.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today, but you will start on -6.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
Good luck!
