11am Jumps racing lost as Uttoxeter and Warwick abandoned
Tony Paley: There will be no jump racing on New Year’s Eve in Britain after Wednesday’s scheduled meetings at Warwick and Uttoxeter were abandoned due to frozen tracks.
Warwick clerk of the course, Sulekha Varma, was due to inspect the course at 8am but another cold night forced her to make an early call. She tweeted: “Temperatures dropped to minus 3.84C overnight and course now re-frozen despite improvements yesterday.”
Charlie Moore, the Uttoxeter clerk of the course, had been due to inspect the course at 8.30am but he reports the track to still be unraceable after another chilly night.
He tweeted: “Uttoxeter has fallen foul to the cold weather at minus 4C so racing abandoned today.”
Wednesday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
Following the abandonment of today’s National Hunt fixtures the only surviving meeting is on the all-weather at Lingfield where Shyron (2.40) can be expected to go well. The George Margarson-trained runner looked unlucky to follow up his November Wolverhampton win at the same track last time out and a reproduction of that run will make him hard to beat this afternoon.
The Godolphin stable will be hoping for a renaissance in 2015 and can end this year with a winner at a modest level courtesy of Barchan (1.10) in the 32Red Nursery Handicap. The selection travelled in good style until weakening into third at Lingfield last month and the drop back to seven furlongs should suit today.
