Talking Horses: Tuesday’s best bets plus the latest racing news

Richard Johnson will be hoping for a better outcome than at Southwell, above, last year, when he partners Who For You in the 1.45 race on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s best bets, by Tony Paley

Today’s jumps fixtures take place in mild, generally dreek conditions and at Southwell the testing ground will be very much to the liking of Who You For (1.45), who will be in his element if he is involved in a stamina test.

The lightly raced Capilla (3.00) has the scope to make a chaser and ran with promise on just his third outing over fences at Ffos Las last time out. He is the one to be on in the Bet and Watch Titanbet Handicap Chase at Lingfield.

The 32red.com Nursery Handicap, a Class Two, is the best Flat race on the card at Wolverhampton, and Art Collection (3.40) is an interesting bet at around 5-1 to reverse recent Chelmsford form with Sun’Aq. The selection has half a length to find with Sun’Aq, who came out on top in a well-run five-furlong contest, and is 2lb better off at the weights.

That alone gives him a fair chance to go one better today, but it is also significant that their rematch comes at six furlongs rather than five. Art Collection was putting his best work at the end last time out, and was previously a winner over six furlongs on turf at Windsor, again in a race run in a good time.

This week’s prize is a copy of the Racing Post Annual 2016, featuring 208 colour pages of the best writing and photography from racing’s daily paper. The blurb promises “ the moments to treasure and unusual stories of the year, plus a look forward at the top prospects for 2016”. If you don’t win, you can buy a copy here.

As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today, but you will start on -3.

In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.

Good luck!
