Talking Horses: Tuesday’s best bets plus the latest racing news

Predictable rain hits Brighton and Leicester

Non-runners abound across today’s three turf cards – there having been 17mm of rain at Brighton and 12mm at Leicester. Those two plus Catterick (5mm) have so far been hit with a combined total of 53 withdrawals.

It does seem a surprisingly high number considering that there was rain in the forecast and soft ground is hardly unprecedented for Britain in October. Anyway, you can keep an eye on the NRs here. I should think there will be more.

Tuesday’s best bets, by Chris Cook

Small fields and low prize money on soft ground make things tricky for punters but I like the look of Beatbybeatbybeat (2.20) at Brighton, where Ismail Mohammed’s juvenile is 9-4 to make a successful handicap debut. She has progressed nicely through her three maidens and seemed to relish some cut when scoring at Redcar last time.

In the second division of that nursery, you can get 4-1 about Touch Of Color (2.50), a Clive Cox filly who has also made progress in maidens but without winning. She did well to be third at Chepstow last time when failing to cope with a full sister to Madame Chiang and a subsequent winner from an in-form yard. The fourth from that race has since won a nursery from the same mark that Touch Of Color now has.

At Kempton tonight, I like 7-2 about Spring Loaded (8.10), who has run consistently well at this track in the past. Paul d’Arcy’s three-year-old is only 1lb higher than when second of 16 at Ascot last month, which looks like a career best.

Tipping competition, day two

Our winners so far:

Monday

Medicine Hat 14-1

Ready Token 9-4

Sweet P 5-2

And our leader is …

Sportingbest +15.50 …

… who had Medicine Hat and Sweet P, putting him 25p ahead of TL127, who had Medicine Hat and Ready Token. Nine of you are on +3.75, Ready Token and Sweet P having been perhaps the most popular successful double in the history of Talking Horses.

Today, we’d like your tips, please, for these races: 4.40 Leicester, 7.40 Kempton, 8.10 Kempton.

This week, we’re giving you a second chance to win a copy of the Racing & Football Outlook Jumps Guide 2015, currently at the printers and expected in plenty of time for the Charlie Hall. It’s packed with its usual features, stats and expert views and can be purchased here if you don’t happen to win a copy.

As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today, but you will start on -3.

In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
