Today’s best bets, by Chris Cook
When I find myself in times of trouble, Keith Dalgleish is a name I’m glad to see on a racecard, especially next to a horse that used to be in someone else’s stable just a few months ago. And so it is with Roc De Prince (4.45), a 7-2 shot for Musselburgh’s staying handicap.
Having been through a variety of yards, he joined Dalgleish early this year and has not been out of the first three in his last five starts, winning twice. He gets to run here off the same mark as when winning at Ayr last week because that was an apprentice handicap for which he earns no penalty.
The going will be very different this time but he doesn’t need it soft. I’ll take him over Always Resolute, who has an inexperienced claimer aboard in an attempt to offset his recent rise in the weights.
There’s 9-4 about Certified (6.50) at Chelmsford tonight, which is better than I was expecting. James Tate’s filly won a fair maiden at this track in November and hosed up at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago on her reappearance.
Her performance that day still had some greenness about it and I reckon there’s more than enough improvement still in her to make her hard to beat this time.
An hour later, Frozen Force (7.50) represents the in-form Amanda Perrett yard. This three-year-old looks on a strong upward curve and relished the step up to 10 furlongs last time. This layout might suit a bit better than Lingfield, where he ran that day.

This week’s prize is a pair of Richmond enclosure tickets for the last day of Glorious Goodwood next week, Saturday 30 July. The beautiful Sussex track will stage the Nassau Stakes and the Stewards’ Cup that day, one of the most enjoyable cards in our racing year. If you don’t win, you can buy tickets here.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today but you will start on -3.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
