Tuesday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
The furore over switching major Flat meetings to the weekend has never been an issue for York’s Ebor meeting, which starts on Wednesday. The Knavesmire venue has always been a popular destination on a Saturday and moving the big betting race of the week, the Ebor Handicap, to the final day of the meeting has worked well.
The chief executive and clerk of the course, William Derby, was on TalkSport this morning and pointed out that tickets are available in all enclosures for all four days.
Of course, moving the traditional start of the Ebor fixture to Wednesday means that today’s fare is moderate and for the best bets the suggestion is to concentrate on the all-weather evening meeting at Wolverhampton.
Bryght Boy (7.00), who returns in the seven-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton, is surely going to get off the mark soon and this looks an ideal opportunity for the well-bred Ed Walker-trained runner. The selection has run well in defeat on the last two occasions, especially at Lingfield in June when he travelled like the best horse in the race in a contest that has worked out well.
Richard Hughes should record another winner as a trainer at the same fixture with Jumping Jack (8.30), who was far from disgraced to finish runner-up at Kempton last time when the relative lack of pace appeared to be his undoing.

This week’s prize, generously offered by BetVictor, is a £50 bet, with the Ebor meeting showcasing a special week of horse racing.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today but you will start on -3.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
