11.30am Treve delights in workout ahead of Friday run

Tony Paley: Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek has issued a positive report after Treve’s most recent gallops work on Tuesday morning as the brilliant mare gears up for her comeback on Friday.

The two-times Arc heroine is due to return to action in the Group Two Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud, and thrilled her trainer in her workout.

“Treve flew in her work, as she does, and I hope she will do the same Friday,” Head-Maarek told Equidia. “I think Treve is stronger this year - she is more mature.”

Tuesday’s best bets, by Tony Paley

The Flat racing has a tricky look to it on Tuesday and the jump racing features an interesting chasing newcomer in the shape of Fox Norton (7.50) at Huntingdon. Given what the selection did over hurdles he is going to take some stopping over fences and will be difficult to beat in the Whittlebury Hall Spa Novice Chase.

Micky Hammond’s horses are running well at present and he notched another double at Cartmel on Monday. The trainer saddles Verko (7.40) at Hexham in the Dad’s Day Handicap Hurdle off bottom weight and off a rating 2lb lower than the selection he won off over fences he rates a sporting nap bet on Tuesday night.

Tipping competition - a new week

Congratulations to GForce1, who won last week’s competition on a final score of +15.50 despite a winnerless Friday, holding off the late surge of PHILYERBOOTS (+12).

This week’s prize is a £25 bet on the Derby, kindly offered by those sporting chaps at Boylesports. This competition starts today (Tuesday), as yesterday was a bank holiday.

To kick things off, we’d like your selections, please, for these races: 4.30 Leicester, 5.20 Redcar, 8.20 Huntingdon.

As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.

In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
